2023 finally promises to be the best year in a long time. Getting out there and doing the things we’ve always wanted to do, testing our limits and possibly go beyond what we felt was possible. When wrapping up the year of 2022, we have structured your possible wish list for activities in 2023, all of them available in the proximity of LUXMARE so that you can make the most out of your vacation while you’re here. We get it and agree – it is more than you ever thought possible. 

Get your adrenaline pumping

Let’s start high up with a skydiving experience you’ll never forget. We’re talking about the thrill of free falling from 15,000ft (4600m) over the Algarve’s picturesque coastline, enjoying the views as you drift towards a dreamy beach landing. And all this is only a short drive from LUX MARE, in neighbouring Alvor.

Conquer the sky

While we’re soaring high, here’s another flying experience for the books, courtesy of SkyeXpedition. Run by the Algarve’s resident gyrocopter team, the experience involves flying over the sights and allowing you to see things from a whole new perspective. But you can take it one step further if you’re feeling the draw, getting them to teach you the art of flying on a course that will gift you the entire skyline. Now, how about that? 

Get active

Outdoors. In the sunshine. In nature. How about a hike along the Ponta da Piedade boardwalk? Taking on the 7 hanging valleys trail? Mountain biking into the hills? Or hitting the waves on your board of choice, be it surf, SUP, or a bodyboard. Or staying in your very own LUX MARE luxury villa and doing yoga on the roof terrace?

Get in touch with the past

Next, there’s exploring the past. Take a deep dive into history when you explore Lagos old town: home to Europe’s first African slave market, ancient city walls, and traces of Moorish occupations. Fancy going further afield? Silves and its Moorish castle aren’t far away, and neither is Cape Saint Vincent, the point of departure for Portugal’s explorers who bravely set sail across the Atlantic over 500 years ago. 

Get remote

The Western Algarve is famous for its hidden coves and secret beaches, so why not find one of your very own? You may be lucky enough to stumble across a deserted stretch of sand near Lagos, but for striking landscapes, untouched nature, and heading off the beaten track, how about heading to the Costa Vicentina Natural Park?

Dive out of your comfort zone

Ready to harness the power of Poseidon, conquer the waves, and learn the tricks required of every seafarer? Then how about joining the Lagos Marina Sailing Academy to learn a trick or two?

Treat yourself

Get in touch with nature

We’ve mentioned getting out and about, but when you do, make sure you truly connect with the nature around you. Notice the Algarve’s characteristic flora. Delicate rockroses lining the hillside, a tree strawberry poking out among the leaves, carobs drooping from high branches, and, if you’re here in winter, almond blossom lining the hillsides.

Birdwatching. Bearing witness as countless species trace their path towards Africa, nesting along the Algarve coast and filling the skies with their flapping wings. It’s an experience not to be missed. Then there’s dolphin watching – heading out to sea to be greeted by flipping fins and excited squeals. It may not be what the Algarve is known for, but the wildlife here is plentiful! 

Get creative

We’re nearing the end of our list, but the activities in Lagos near LUX MARE are far from drying up. In fact, an escape to the Algarve is the perfect opportunity to get your creative juices flowing. How about signing up for a workshop at the local Creative Arts Laboratory? Or how about a traditional pottery class at a family-run project sure to make an impression?

And finally, switch off
