Start your adventure in Lagos this Valentine’s Day
Lagos Adventure Activities to Get Your Heart Beating
Valentine’s Day is coming up, and while many are planning a classic dinner out, a SPA day, or perhaps a cultural day out (if that’s what you have in mind, check out this blog post), while others are looking for something a bit more… adventurous. After all, Valentine’s Day is about celebrating your unique type of love, so why try to fit a mold when all you want to do is break out of it?
As many romances blossom from shared interests, it’s not surprising that you adrenaline junkies out there are looking to appreciate each other in a, let’s say, slightly different way… A way that makes your heart pump, and not necessarily just from your feelings.
Looking to show your other half how much you care with an adrenaline-fuelled adventure of a lifetime? Check out our (surprisingly long) list of Lagos adventure activities to get your heart beating and make your Valentine’s stay at LUX MARE your most romantic yet.
An afternoon at Lagos Adventure Park
If adventure is your middle name, how about venturing to Lagos’ very own adventure park in a pine forest, only a 15-minute drive from LUX MARE? Expect a range of high ropes courses with all the challenges you’d hope for, as well as giant zip lines and even the option of paintball if the mood strikes, as well as shady, picturesque picnic areas, to add an edge of romance. The bad news is that the park isn’t open on Valentine’s Day itself, but the good news is that it’s open from 2-6 pm daily from the 15th of February onwards, so you can certainly book an adventure weekend for two!
A Lagos Adventure Tour for Two
If you fancy making the most of being in Lagos to see the sights but want to explore the region’s wild side in an “interactive, full-sensory, hands-on outdoor experience designed to activate the body, quiet the mind, energise the soul & satisfy the stomach,” rounding off with a one–of-a-kind sunset foodie experience, the Algarve’s “Hiking Guy” T.J. may just have the tour for you.
Exploring the Algarve’s Skies
If heights are what get your heart pumping, how about signing yourselves up for sky diving or paragliding, or, if you want to be able to stare into each others’ eyes as you hit the skies, a sunrise hot air balloon ride?
Hitting the Sea
Or maybe watersports are more your thing, and you can’t wait to (finally) spend Valentine’s Day somewhere warm enough to fully make a splash. From stand-up paddling through hidden caves and grottoes along Lagos’ coast to surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing, there are options for all ability types, from seasoned pros to beginners, so all you’ll have to do is pick your poison (and maybe rent a wetsuit, as it’s warm down here, but not that warm!), and dive right in. If you don’t actually fancy getting into the water, there are the options of kayaking, canoeing, jet boating, jet skiing, and boat tours to see dolphins, among other sealife.
Staying on Land for your Lagos Adventure
If you plan to spend your Valentine’s Day hand-in-hand with your significant other, with your feet fully on dry land, there are plenty of Lagos land adventures that may pique your interest.
From walking tours to hikes along the Algarve’s scenic coastline – including the local Ponta da Piedade trail, iconic 7 Hanging Valleys trail with a mandatory stop at Marina Beach and its famous heart-shaped rock formation, and the new Al-Mutamid Route—a walk in the Algarve is sure to inspire romance at every turn.
Want to ramp the adventure up a little? Mountain biking tours are also available in Praia da Luz, taking you all around the striking Lagos hills, as are sunset bouldering trips that allow you to conquer Lagos’ breathtaking seascapes.
Using Lagos as the Starting Point
While adventurers may need a while to tick off the long to-do list of adrenaline-pumping activities in Lagos, it’s also worth considering what you’ll do once your time in the Algarve is up. And we have a suggestion for you: how about embarking on what was once the longest train ride in the world, which sets off from: you’ve guessed it, Lagos!
Spanning approximately 18,755 kilometres and taking over 21 days through 13 countries, the final destination of this train ride is Singapore. However, with the political situations of some countries on the route having become pretty delicate over recent years, the full ride isn’t an option… but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the route at least some of the way, stretching your Valentine’s experience all the way up Portugal and beyond.
Think you May Need a Valentine’s Week?
When we suggest extending Valentine’s Day to Valentine’s week at LUX MARE, we couldn’t be more serious, as how else are you going to squeeze in the huge variety of activities available? We’re talking interspersing your Lagos adventures with winetasting, oyster sampling, and exploring the rugged nature in nearby Sagres. There are options of golf and sunset horse rides, and, of course, taking the time to walk hand in hand through Lagos’ picturesque streets, exploring its hidden gems. Spotted some options you just can’t pass up? Let our concierge know, and they’ll put together an idyllic Lagos itinerary to make your Valentine’s Day (or week) 2025 one to remember!
